PILOT SCHOOL
Open Category A2
what can i do with the A2?
Open category operations where I can fly in urban environment scenarios and near people but never getting closer than 30 meters (5 m in some cases with a slow speed) subcategory A with a UAS with class C2 marking (< 4kg) or with a UAS with MTOM less than 2 kg, without
class marking and introduced on the market before January 1, 2023 (50 m)
what do i have to study for exam?
This training would not be necessary if you want to study STS, since the subjects are included in the STS category. If, on the other hand, you are not going to take the STS Level and you want to fly drones weighing more than 900g in urban environments or near people, under the conditions set out, you do need to obtain the A2 category.
The Open A2 category offers the AESA syllabus directly online and free of charge. But unlike the A1/A3 category, AESA does not offer the course so you will have to prepare it on your own,
There are three new topics.
You will also need a self-practice declaration, which you can do yourself or we give you the option of doing it with us. A declaration that you have completed self-practice training must be submitted to AESA during your registration for the exam. This self-practice training must be carried out in an area where no non-participating person is put at risk and at a minimum horizontal distance of 150 metres from residential, commercial, industrial or recreational areas.
what is the exam process?
In this case, the remote pilot must have successfully passed case 2 and submit to AESA a declaration that he/she has completed self-practical training during his/her registration for the exam. This self-practical training must be carried out in an area where no non-participating person is endangered and at a minimum horizontal distance of 150 metres from residential, commercial, industrial or recreational areas.
When performing self-training practice, the remote pilot must perform as many flights as he considers necessary to acquire a reasonable level of knowledge and skills to operate the UAS.
In order to obtain the remote pilot competency certificate, the pilot must complete his/her self-practice declaration during the registration process for the A2 subcategory exam. The exam given by AESA consists of 30 multiple choice questions and a maximum time limit of 30 minutes.
As in case 2, the remote pilot will have 2 attempts to pass the exam, and must get at least 75% of the answers correct. Once the exam has been passed, no action is required. When the certificate has been issued, the user will receive a notification in the email address with which they registered. The certificate is valid for 5 years and the renewal process must be initiated with AESA prior to the expiration date.
In case of Not Suitable, the instructions in case 2 must be followed, and the remote pilot must re-register to obtain two new exam attempts.
